Spring

Welcome to the Alpine Fellowship Journal.

In case you missed it, applications for all four of our prizes closed a few weeks ago. We had over 4,000 applications across the prizes, including a record high applications in Visual Art. We have now begun the process of judging the applications and will be announcing longlists, shortlists and winners over the next few months.

But aside from offering financial support and opportunities to artists, writers, academics and theatremakers, we wanted to find ways that we could support those that don’t fit into one of those categories. So, this month we’re announcing the Alpine Fellowship Associate Fellows Programme.

You can find out more below, as well as learning a little more about what’s going on across the Alpine Fellowship as we celebrate the awakening of spring

Announcements

In the past we’ve announced the exact dates when we would be revealing longlist, shortlists and winners, however, this year we’ve decided not to do that. The nature of the pandemic has made life much more changeable for many of our judges and we want to give them the time they need to review all submissions timely and manage circumstances in their lives.

However, so that our applicants know expected time lines, here are the deadlines we’re currently anticipating. (WB means week beginning, so the announcement will be at some point that week)

Academic Writing Prize

Shortlist: WB 31st May 2021

Winner: WB 28th June 2021

Theatre Prize

Shortlist: WB 31st May 2021

Winner: WB 28th June 2021

Writing Prize

Longlist: WB 31st May 2021

Shortlist: WB 14th June 2021

Winner: WB 28th June 2021

Visual Art Prize

Shortlist: WB 31st May 2021

Winner: WB 28th June 2021

We will let every applicant know the result of their application, you will receive an email through Submittable. And due to the amount of prizes we will not enter into any conversation regarding unsuccessful applications, nor are we able to provide any feedback.

So, be patient and if you have Instagram, you can follow us there and get the latest updates as they happen.

Alpine Fellowship Associate Fellows Programme

Think you would benefit from attending our symposium but your work doesn’t fit into any of our prize categories? Apply now to become an Associate Fellow and attend our 2021 Alpine Fellowship Symposium on the theme of Untamed: on wilderness and civilization.

Our 2021 Symposium

At the moment, we’re planning our symposium to take place at the end of August. We’re not announcing dates just yet, as the travel situation around the world is still fragile and changeable. One thing that we can confirm, however, is that we are planning on going back to Fjällnäs.

Fjällnäs is Sweden’s oldest mountain hotel and is the perfect sanctuary for a gathering of our symposium. If you want to find out more about Fjällnäs, you can visit their website by clicking here.
